Our History
Since 1960, the Gallardo family farms only produced Caturra and Catuai coffee varieties at lower elevations, until a few years ago Mr. José Manuel Gallardo Araúz saw the potential of NUGUO and started growing Geisha variety coffee plants. Nowadays Café Gallardo is one of the biggest coffee growers in Panama
The process
Nuguo’s coffee is processed at the farm:
Pulped and washed in a small, hand-powered, washing station. The fermentation process takes place during 24 to 36 hours in wooden boxes. Washing is done by hand through steering the coffee seeds until it feels rough.The coffee is dried in covered African beds during 3 to 6 weeks.
Nuguo Farm
It´s situated between 1.750 and 1.950 MASL, specifically the area of Jurutungo, in Renacimiento, Chiriquí, nestled by nature between the largest natural rainforest reserve in Central América -La Amistad International Park- and the border of Costa Rica. Its location and environment are very challenging for the coffee plants, with low temperatures at night, lots of wind and high humidity and rainfall intensity. We process our washed, honey and natural coffee paying attention of relative humidity and temperature to aim for the highest quality.
Our Specialty Coffee
We take thorough care of the coffee plants, especially of its nutrition, till the harvest time. We pick only perfectly ripe coffee cherries, which are floated and separated in micro lots by day and location to guarantee the highest quality and intensity of flavor.

Our special coffee has been awarded at the Best Of Panama -a specialty coffee competition-, in 2015 version, with the 1st place in the Exotic Washed category, and in the 2016 version, with the 1st place in the Innovation category, with 2nd place in the Exotic Washed category and the 2nd place in the Exotic Natural category.
